Description
Meet Vitreledonella richardi, AKA Richard the glass octopus! Mike Inscho illustrates this triple-foil design on the Proton Soft Proxy, a low-profile straight-to-understable putter versatile enough for a broad range of manipulation and shot shapes. Proton Soft is a plastic type that the Proxy is not run in often, and the swirly rims on these discs have to be seen to be believed. Exclusive to the OTB Open 2026 releases, Proxy lovers are going to eat these up!
The Axiom Proton Soft Proxy putter is Axiom's remarkably straight, glidey putt and approach disc, molded in Proton Soft plastic. It's built for players who want straight putter drives and controllable approaches, and it's at its best on straight putter drives, approaches, and putts. This listing is the OTB Open 2026 release of the Proxy, so you get the same trusted flight with a collectible look.
Proton Soft Plastic
Proton Soft takes Axiom's translucent, candy-colored Proton blend and gives it a softer, more flexible feel. You keep Proton's high durability and long, consistent life, with extra flex that helps your Proxy settle where it lands. The Proxy is also available in Cosmic Electron, Cosmic Electron Firm, Cosmic Electron Soft and Eclipse.
What Is Project Lab Coat?
Project Lab Coat (PLC) is the visual refresh of the MVP Disc Sports and Axiom Discs lineups, MVP's commitment to making sure their discs are the best they can be today, not what made sense a decade ago. Most MVP and Axiom stock stamps were 10 to 15 years old, so PLC brings fresh designs built on MVP's multi-foil stamping. Axiom keeps its signature colorful GYRO rims, and black rims are joining the Axiom color mix.
Why it's a win: the flight and plastic don't change. PLC discs come from the same molds and plastic, made in the same Marlette, Michigan facility, so this Proxy flies just like the pre-PLC "Classics," with a fresh, modern look.
The Mold
The Proxy is a 21.1 cm putt and approach disc with a 10 mm rim. It shares the Envy mold's core, giving it the same low-profile feel and solid grip, with a short wing width and wide flight plate diameter for superior glide. It sets itself apart from the Axiom Envy with a remarkably straight, forward-fading finish. A bit of high-speed turn lets you shape its lines over a broad range of power and helps less powerful throwers achieve straight putter drives.
Stability
The Proxy is neutral. Neutral discs fly straight and true with very little turn or fade. For right-hand backhand (RHBH) throwers, it flies straight with only a slight drift left as it slows down. Left-hand backhand (LHBH) throwers will see the mirror image, with a gentle drift right at the finish. Forehand flights flip that pattern: right-hand forehand (RHFH) follows the LHBH line and left-hand forehand (LHFH) follows the RHBH line. This Proton Soft run is rated 3/3/-1/0.25, with less fade than the standard 3/3/-1/0.5. It's an easy choice for beginners and a reliable tool for experienced players.
Flight Numbers
| Rating | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | 3 | Slow putter speed, easy to control without much power. |
| Glide | 3 | Moderate glide that carries without sailing past the target. |
| Turn | -1 | A touch of high-speed turn to the right (RHBH) for a little extra distance. |
| Fade | 0.25 | Very little fade, so it finishes nearly straight. |
