Description

The MVP Fission Octane distance driver is MVP's high-speed, stable-understable distance driver, molded in Fission plastic. It's built for players chasing max distance with straight, controllable lines, and it's at its best on long, straight drives and hyzer-flips for max distance. If you're shopping for a dependable Octane for your bag, this Fission run is a great place to start.

Fission Plastic

Fission is MVP's breakthrough lightweight plastic. Its Fission Microbubble Technology creates an ultralight Neutron core with evenly distributed, imperceptible microbubbles, which lets MVP put an even denser GYRO overmold on the rim. The result is a light throwing weight with a substantial feel and improved durability over other bubble plastics. Fission is opaque with a matte finish, and it's a great way to get extra distance from your Octane without the floppy feel of typical lightweight discs. The Octane is also available in Neutron, Plasma and Proton.

The Mold

The Octane is a 21.1 cm distance driver with a 23 mm rim. The Octane falls in the same general stability lineage as the Inertia and Wave, with a slow-turning profile that holds long and straight until its fade finish. The 23mm Octane is designed to be less understable than its 21.5mm counterpart, the Wave. Power throwers can hyzer-flip it for max distance and tailwind lines.

Stability

The Octane is stable-to-understable. Understable discs turn away from your throwing arm at speed, making turnovers and hyzer-flips easier and helping lower-power players fly straight. For right-hand backhand (RHBH) throwers, it tends to drift right during the fastest part of its flight, then shows a gentle fade back to the left at the end. Left-hand backhand (LHBH) throwers will see the mirror image, drifting left early and fading right at the end. Forehand flights flip that pattern: right-hand forehand (RHFH) follows the LHBH line and left-hand forehand (LHFH) follows the RHBH line. This Fission run is rated 13/5/-1.5/2, with a little more turn than the standard 13/5/-1/2 Octane. It suits beginners who need help getting straight flights as well as advanced players who want to shape turnovers.

Flight Numbers

Rating Value What it means
Speed 13 Very high speed that needs strong arm speed to fly as rated.
Glide 5 Lots of glide to help it stay in the air and add distance.
Turn -1.5 Noticeable turn to the right (RHBH) at speed, great for turnovers and hyzer-flips.
Fade 2 A moderate, dependable fade at the end of the flight.

FAQ

Is the MVP Octane good for beginners?

It can be. MVP says average throwers should see straight flights with a bit of shallow turn, though a slower driver may be easier to control at first.

Is the MVP Octane overstable?

No. The Octane is stable-to-understable, rated 13/5/-1.5/2. It has 1.5 turn, so it's built for turnovers and hyzer-flips rather than hard fades.

What's the difference between Fission and Neutron plastic?

Fission uses a microbubble Neutron core to make the disc lighter while increasing the GYRO effect. Standard Neutron is heavier and has the widest color selection.

What disc is similar to the MVP Octane?

The MVP Neutron Catalyst (13/5.5/-2/2) shares the Octane's core and dome, with more turn.

How far does the MVP Octane fly?

With an average arm, expect roughly 410 feet. Distance depends heavily on your power and form, so stronger throwers will go farther and newer players shorter.
