Bones, Powell Peralta, and Mini Logo Wheels: A Skate One Wheel Guide

Bones, Powell Peralta, and Mini Logo Wheels: A Skate One Wheel Guide

Three of skateboarding's best-known wheel brands come from one company: Skate One. Bones makes some of the most trusted street and park urethane in skating, Powell Peralta brings its Dragon Formula and decades of history, and Mini Logo offers simple, dependable wheels at an approachable level. Same factory know-how, three different personalities.

This guide breaks down every formula we carry from all three, how to pick a hardness and shape, and our quick picks for a typical street and park setup.

Hardness 101

Wheel hardness is measured on the durometer scale. Higher numbers are harder and faster on smooth ground; lower numbers are softer, grippier, and smoother over cracks. Most street and park wheels sit between 95A and 104A, all-terrain wheels between 88A and 95A, and cruiser wheels around 75A to 85A. Bones measures its Skatepark Formula on the B scale, which reads about 20 points lower than A: 81B is like 101A, and 84B is like 104A.

Powell Peralta Dragon Formula

Dragon Formula is Powell's answer to the soft-vs-hard tradeoff. Dragons roll over rough terrain like a softer wheel but still grip and slide like a hard one, and Powell says they have up to 20% higher rebound than standard hard wheels. Powell developed the formula over 10 years.

Dragon What Powell Says Best For
88A The softest, smoothest, and fastest Dragons, with over 82% rebound. Slides with the ease of wheels 10 points harder Rough city streets and skating to the spot
93A Rolls over rough terrain but grips and slides like 99A and 101A wheels, with 18-20% higher rebound than hard wheels Mixed terrain, street to park
95A Opens up more surfaces without losing the precision for technical tricks Technical street on imperfect ground
97A A smoother ride on more surfaces with the control of a hard wheel Parks, bowls, and rough streets

Dragon shapes include the classic V1, V4, V5, and V6; the asymmetrical Nano Rats (AV4, AV5, AV6, and AA2), which pair a climbing or sidecut outer face with a lock-in inner face; the extra-wide A2; Andy Anderson's offset Nano Cubic; the narrow Ratbones II; and the Bomber.

Bones X-Formula

X-Formula rolls over rough terrain like a softer wheel but slides like a harder one. Bones says it absorbs vibration and softens impacts, and it was developed over a ten-year period to slide when you ask and grip when you need it. We carry it in 95A, 97A, and 99A.

Bones STF (Street Tech Formula)

Bones introduced STF in 2005 and changed the game. STF rolls fast, grips when you need it, and slides when you want, without flat spotting, and Bones says it lasts several times longer than most wheels in its tier. It comes in 99A and 103A.

Bones Shapes

Shape What Bones Says
V1 Standard A perfect balance of radius, width, and speed for the best all-around performance
V2 Locks A tighter profile and straighter edge for better lock-in control
V3 Slims A narrower width and lighter weight for faster flick and easier slides
V4 Wide A wider contact patch for greater stability and solid landings
V5 Sidecut Sidecut walls for more stability, less drag, and longer grinds
V6 Widecut A wider contact patch with sidecut walls for less drag, longer grinds, and greater stability
V7 Double Locks A tighter profile and straighter edge for lock-in, with added width for slide control
V8 Double Wides Double radius edges for easy roll-over

More From Bones

SPF (Skatepark Formula) resists flatspotting on slick, smooth surfaces while keeping a higher rebound for a quicker, faster roll, in 81B (like 101A) and 84B (like 104A). ATF (All-Terrain Formula) is a soft 80A urethane that rolls quickly and smoothly regardless of road quality. The Original 100A formula is Bones' classic hard wheel.

Mini Logo

Mini Logo Hybrids (90A) combine the speed and durability of a hard wheel with the forgiveness of a soft wheel for all-terrain fun at any skill level. AWOL (80A) is the softest wheel in the line, for cruising, filming, and pushing to work, with a fiber-reinforced hub. The AWOL Lift Kit turns any deck and trucks into a cruiser, with matched wheels, Mini Logo bearings, riser pads, and hardware in one package.

Soft and Slide Wheels From Powell

Powell's Soft Slide Formula (SSF) is fast rolling, incredibly durable, and made to slide. You'll find it in G-Slides for street setups, Snakes and Primos for cruising, and longboard wheels like the Kevin Reimer and Byron Essert models. For tech sliding on a street setup, the Yuppie Slide Formula 104A is hand-picked to resist flatspots and abrasion.

Old School Re-Issues

Building a classic board? Powell's re-issues bring back the originals: Rat Bones, G-Bones, and Mini-Cubics.
